Anbariya Mosque

When mentioning the historical and archaeological mosques in Medina, the Anbariya Mosque needs to be mentioned. This mosque was built during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid the Second in 1326 Hijri. The mosque was part of the Hijaz railroad station project in the Anbariaya region. Trains from this station ran between Medina and Damascus.

Al-Anbariya Mosque reflects the magnificence and precision of Ottoman architecture.  In the entrance area are small hemispherical domes bordered by two minarets, each with a muezzin balcony, topped by a lead-lined cone. In the center is a large dome, decorated inside with Ottoman motifs. The area of the mosque is 100 m², it has a square shape and is covered with basalt stones. The mosque does not have a pulpit (minbar) and thus Friday prayers are not held.
