❁ Allah's Right
And it is right in the sight of Allah for men to make the pilgrimage to the Home - (those) who have the means to do so. But whoever disbelieves, Allah is Unkind to him who dwells in the world. (Quran 3:97)
❁ The fifth pillar in Islam
Ibn Umar reported: Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: "Islam was built on five foundations: the testimony that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, the performance of prayer, the payment of zakat, the pilgrimage to the House of Allah, and fasting in Ramadan”. (Bukhari and Muslim)
❁ Follow the call of Ibrahim
And proclaim among the people the pilgrimage, so they will come to you on foot and on many gaunt (mounts), coming along from every deep pass, that they may experience (all kinds of) benefits for themselves, and pronounce the name of Allah on well known days over that with which He has provided them on the four-footed among the cattle. Eat (for yourselves) of it, and give food to the wretched, to the poor. (Quran 22:27)
❁ Own rite of the Islamic community
And for every community We have appointed a rite, that they may pronounce the name of Allah over that with which He has supplied them with the four-footed among the cattle. Your God is One God, so be devoted to Him. And proclaim glad tidings to those who humble themselves. (Quran 22:34)
❁ Worship of Allah
And if one highly honors the worship of Allah, it is (an expression derived) from the fear of God of the hearts. (Quran 22:32)
❁ The worship in perfection
All worship services are turning to God according to His instructions with body and soul. Also, each worship has its specificity:
- Prayer: detachment from time.
- Fasting: detachment from cravings and needs.
- Zakat: detachment from wealth.
Pilgrimage, so, is the complete simultaneous detachment. By detach from time, cravings, needs, and wealth, with the full commitment of body and soul.
❁ Equal to Jihad
Abu-Huraira reported: Allah's Messenger ﷺ was asked: which is the best deed? He said, "Faith in Allah and in His Messenger." He was asked: and then which one? He said, "Toil in the way of Allah". He was asked: And which then? He said, "The accepted pilgrimage". (Bukhari and Muslim)
Aisha, Mother of the Faithful said: O Messenger of Allah, we realize that Jihad is the best deed. Then must we not do jihad? He said: "No, you are entitled to the best jihad: the accepted pilgrimage." (Bukhari)
Abu-Huraira reported: Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, "The Jihad for the old, children, weak and women is the pilgrimage and the umrah”. (An-Nasa'i)
❁ Guests of the All-Merciful
Ibn Umar reported: Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: "Those who do jihad in the way of Allah and those who perform the pilgrimage and the 'Umrah are Allah's guests. He called them and they followed. And they call upon Him, so He will answer them". (Ibn Madshah)
❁ Allah's forgiveness
Abu-Huraira reported: I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ say: "Whoever performs the pilgrimage for the sake of Allah's face and does not speak or do anything offensive, he will return as if his mother had just given birth to him." (Bukhari and Muslim)
Abu-Huraira reported: Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: "The 'Umrah wipes out the sins committed since the previous 'Umrah. And for the accepted pilgrimage there is no reward less than Paradise." (Bukhari and Muslim)
